Sometimes I look at my brother. He is 43 now. There are days when he feels very disappointed, almost discouraged, because he thinks he is too old to start something new. He often says, “It’s too late for me… there’s nothing I can do now.”
And every time I hear this, it makes me think. Why do we believe life has an expiry date on dreams? Why do we think there is some invisible rulebook that says you must do this in your 20s, achieve that in your 30s, and if you miss it—your life is over?
The truth is, there is no such rule. Success doesn’t check your age before knocking at your door.
The Timing of Life
In many people’s lives, things come late. And it’s not always their fault. Sometimes it’s because of family responsibilities, sometimes financial struggles, and sometimes personal problems that weigh them down. We can’t blame ourselves for this—life unfolds differently for each one of us.
Everything has its own timing. Before time, you cannot force anything into existence. If something is meant for you, it will appear at the right moment, not a second earlier.
So why regret? Regret is unprofessional—it only drains your energy. Whatever you did in your past was right for that moment. You made decisions with the knowledge and resources you had then. Don’t be harsh on yourself for that.
Instead, take the lessons, and move forward.
There Is No Timeline
You don’t have to achieve everything in your 30s. If you didn’t, that doesn’t mean your life has ended. No! It just means your journey has a different rhythm.
Maybe if you tried earlier, it wouldn’t have worked. Maybe you weren’t ready then. Maybe life wanted you to gather experiences first so that when the opportunity finally arrived, you could embrace it fully.
So, don’t waste time thinking “I should have done it earlier.” When you get the chance—do it now. Just do it.
Proof That Age Doesn’t Matter
-
Colonel Sanders started KFC at 65. Imagine if he thought, “It’s too late for me.” The world would never have tasted that recipe.
-
Grandma Moses began painting seriously in her late 70s. Today, her work is treasured worldwide.
-
Many people in their 40s, 50s, or even later, have found love, built careers, started businesses, and discovered new talents.
Age didn’t stop them—mindset did.
My Message to You (and to My Brother)
If you are reading this and thinking you are too old, I want to tell you: No, you’re not. Your dreams are still valid. Your passions are still alive.
Stop comparing your timeline with others. Walk your own path. Let success meet you when you’re ready. Because truly, success doesn’t check your age—it only checks if you’re brave enough to open the door when it knocks.
