Gouri Habba 2025

🌸 Celebrate Gouri Habba 2025 on 26th August. Know its date, significance, rituals, and why Goddess Gauri is worshipped before Ganesh Chaturthi?

Gouri Habba (also called Swarna Gouri Vratha or Gowri Habba) is a Hindu festival dedicated to Goddess Gauri (Parvati), the mother of Lord Ganesha and wife of Lord Shiva.

It is especially popular in Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, and Maharashtra, where women worship Goddess Gauri for prosperity, good health, and marital happiness.

In 2025, Gouri Habba will be celebrated on 26th August 2025, a day before Ganesh Chaturthi.

Significance of Gouri Habba

Goddess Gauri is worshipped as the embodiment of strength, purity, fertility, and prosperity. According to tradition, she comes to her parental home during this festival and is welcomed with love and devotion. The next day, during Ganesh Chaturthi, her son Lord Ganesha is also worshipped, symbolizing the divine bond between mother and child.

For married women, Gouri Habba is a time to pray for the long life and success of their husbands, while unmarried girls seek a good life partner and future prosperity.

Rituals of Gouri Habba

  1. Kalasha Sthapana (Welcoming Gauri): A decorated pot or idol symbolizing Goddess Gauri is installed at home.

  2. Alankara (Decoration): The goddess is adorned with turmeric, kumkum, flowers, and traditional attire.

  3. Mangala Dravya: Sacred items like bangles, turmeric, kumkum, and blouse pieces are offered.

  4. Vratha & Katha: Women observe Swarna Gouri Vratha, tie the sacred thread with 16 knots, and recite the Gouri Vratha Katha.

  5. Naivedya (Offerings): Special dishes such as puliyogare (tamarind rice), kosambari (salad), payasa (kheer), and holige (puran poli) are prepared and offered to the goddess.

Connection with Ganesh Chaturthi

Gouri Habba is closely linked to Ganesh Chaturthi. Devotees believe that Goddess Gauri visits her home a day before her son Ganesha. The next day, Ganesh Chaturthi marks the arrival of Lord Ganesha, and both festivals are celebrated with devotion and joy.
